Desks for Remote Learning

In December of 2020, Rotarians learned about the need for student desks for remote learning. Partnering with Hyannis West Elementary School, seven children were identified whose families would benefit from a student desk. Hyannis Rotarians quickly rallied to supply the tools, lumber, and labor to build the desks at home. This project continues as we wait for more students in need.

Common Threads of Hope

In May of 2020 the Sewing Kits found a new mission in the Common Threads of Hope project. A clothesline was hung outside of the Hyannis Federated Church to hang stylized face masks for the public to gather as they need. Donations of face masks and their materials were also donated by organizations including Clean Green Cape Cod, Cape Cod Vacuum, Hems While You Wait, Joanne Fabrics, and the Cape Cod Cape Verdean Museum and Cultural Center and other individuals.

In April of 2020 the Rotary Club of Hyannis requested a $1000 grant from District 7950 for A Baby Center. The need for diapers, wipes and formula had quadrupled and the grant given would service over 200 clients by providing up to 60 diapers each through a partnership with the National Diaper Bank Network.

Sewing Machines

In March of 2020 the Rotary Club of Hyannis designated funds for the purchase of four sewing machines. With these sewing machines parents and children alike from the Hyannis Federated Church put together hundreds of masks for healthcare institutions where accessibility to masks was needed most. The Olson mask was one of the patterns chosen for N95 compliance.
