Major Crisis Relief Fund of The Cape Cod Times Needy Fund

Major Crisis Relief Fund

In the wake of the potential devastation caused by a major natural, man-made, or terrorist disaster, many Cape Cod residents will find themselves in need of financial and other types of assistance. The Cape Cod Times Needy Fund's Major Crisis Relief Fund was established with the intention of helping our community members in the aftermath of such a disaster. The goal of the fund is to establish resources and partnerships prior to a disaster that will then be directly available to address the needs of individuals and families which are unmet by traditional forms of disaster aid.

The Major Crisis Relief Fund was established in 2016 by the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund, a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, to fill existing service gaps in private and public funding for crises, particularly in terms of long-term recovery assistance.  While the Needy Fund provides urgent financial assistance throughout the year to individuals and families residing on the Cape and Islands who are experiencing temporary financial hardship, it could not meet a dramatic increase in unmet needs following a disaster such as Hurricane Sandy. In the past few weeks Hurricanes Harvey and  Irma have caused heartbreaking devastation. The recent natural  disaster on September 8, 2017 in Mexico was a magnitude 8.1 earthquake.  The MCRF was created to provide humanitarian aid on the Cape and Islands during major crises.

Cape Cod Fisheries Trust

The Cape Cod Fisheries Trust was established to ensure that the Cape's local, smaller-scale fishing businesses continued to be profitable and sustainable.

It came about when a group of fishermen got together with the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen's Alliance to figure out how to cope with some of the unforeseen consequences that happened when the management of scallop and groundfish moved into catch share systems.

In collaboration with the Community Development Partnership, the Trust delivers a suite of economic development initiatives to support our fleet. In all that we do, we promote good business practices and support the Cape's next generation of fishermen.
